Pushing the limits of a Tangle adds excitement to the daily practice of Zentangle.

One of my go-to / comfort Tangles that I like to push is Mooka.

Below are many of my Mooka Inspired Zentangle Tiles and Art Pieces done from 2011 to present.

I have been blogging about Mooka Blues & Mooka Renaissance, and Mooka on Black over the last couple of months (May 2014, June 2014, July 2014) so I pulled them all together in this gallery presentation.  It is a revelation to see the growth that over three and half years of almost daily Zentangle practice produces in the work. Mooka Tans 2 by Sharla R. Hicks Certified Zentangle Teacher © 2014: Sepia Brown Micron Pigma Pen with White Pastel Pencil

Sepia Pen is a dark brown that looks almost black but adds a real warmth to Renaissance Tile.

Exploring Mooka on the new Renaissance Tiles is an unveiling of how color interacts on the tan.  The tan color is so rich and takes each pen and shading choice like a new set of clothes.  Each one has its very own feel and yet each choice so far has been very opulent and rich.

Each time I try a new pen color or shading technique on the Renaissance Tiles I fall in love all over again.  Here is a series of 3 different renditions on the new Renaissance Tiles using the Micron Pens in Blue, Black, Brown (rusty brown) & Sepia (darker brown). Continue reading

More Mooka Blues & Botanicals by Sharla R. Hicks, Certified Zentangle Teacher

Today’s post includes three more additions with an obvious botanical edge to my Mooka Blues Series on 3.5″ Zentangle Tiles, using Black Micron Pen, and General’s Pastel Pencil or Derwent Watercolor Pencil for shading.

Zentangle TIP: Addressing the background of a Zentangle Tile adds sophistication and visually sharpens a busy piece.

More Mooka Blues with a botanical influence.  It is a nice change to be working on the small 3.5 Zentangle Tile, Micron Pigma Pen & General’s Blue Pastel Pencil.  Sometimes I can do 1 or 2 pieces an evening.  More coming soon.

Last week I gave a Zentangle® Workshop to 18 enthusiastic quilters from the Glendale Quilt Guild who did wonderful work.  The work inspired me to explore Mooka and Mooka-esk shapes and how they could be used in a quilt.  My shading supplies were at the office except for the my blue pastel pencil so I embraced the challenge and played with the Mooka Blues, I am in love with the Blues.
